What is Stratum Capital?
Stratum Capital Management LLC is a Texas registered investment adviser. It manages one portfolio, 30% Stratum Core and 70% Stratum Alpha.
Where are client assets held?
Client assets are held at Interactive Brokers in the client’s own account. Stratum has authority to manage investments under the advisory agreement. Management fees are deducted under the client’s written authorization. Custody does not protect against investment losses.
How is the management fee charged?
The fee is a percentage of the assets under management, measured at quarter end and billed quarterly in arrears. It is deducted from your custodial account under the written authorization in the advisory agreement. The Fees page gives the schedule and what the custodian charges separately.
What happens if markets decline?
The Stratum Capital portfolio can lose value. Alpha holds a concentrated portfolio, and Core can hold very few companies. Either can decline sharply and may lose more than a broadly diversified portfolio. A long horizon does not guarantee recovery or prevent a loss.
How does Alpha differ from an index fund?
Alpha holds a concentrated portfolio selected through the firm’s research process and rebuilt each January. An index fund typically follows a specified index. Concentration increases the effect of individual businesses on portfolio results.
What is a separately managed account?
A separately managed account holds the client’s assets in the client’s own account at the custodian. The assets are managed to the agreed strategy rather than pooled with other investors’ assets.
Does Stratum provide financial planning?
No. Stratum manages one portfolio. It does not provide financial planning, and it does not manage an employer retirement plan.
Can the portfolio be adjusted to my risk tolerance?
No. Every account holds 30% Core and 70% Alpha. Before an account opens we review whether that portfolio fits the applicant’s objectives, horizon and capacity for loss, and we do not accept applicants for whom it does not.
